The 8th Five Year Plan (2021-2025) sets out the main targets to be achieved in the fisheries sector with a view to achieving the goals set out in the government's election manifesto, promotion to developed-rich countries by 2041 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
ü To increase farmed fish production by 12.50 percent and total fish production by 11 percent over 2019-20 (25.83 lakh MT);
ü Ensuring a daily per capita fish intake of 65 grams;
ü Increased export of frozen shrimp, fish and value added fishery products to 1.00 lakh MT;
ü Creating more employment for unemployed youth and young women and ensuring 20-25 percent female participation in fisheries;
ü Increasing the income of fishermen/fishermen by 30 percent;
ü Develop good farming management and supply systems at every stage of supply of fish and shrimp to international markets; And
ü Implementation of plans adopted to ensure sound management of marine fisheries resources.
Potential Major Achievements for FY 2022-2023:
ü Establishment of 2800 demonstration fish farms and 500 bill nurseries nationwide, May 217. Release of tons of fry and issuance and renewal of 3105 fish food licenses;
ü Providing training to .66 lakh fish farmers/beneficiaries and 3500 officers/employees of the Department of Fisheries with the aim of creating employment through skill development;
ü Inspection of 810 fish processing factories and establishments and 4320 consignment inspections to ensure safety compliance of fish and fish products;
ü Managing 22 Online/Growth Centers for fish marketing; And
ü To increase fish production to 47.81 lakh metric tons in the financial year 2022-23 through all these activities.
